This development could replace six homes near downtown

Project will consolidate and stretch across six existing properties

Kelowna lawmakers have unanimously approved a rezoning application for six properties along Saucier and Harvey Avenue that are slated for tear down and redevelopment.

The change means the new building will be rental-only in perpetuity.

According to documents submitted to city hall, a six-floor multi-family residential project is proposed for four properties fronting Highway 97, and two facing Saucier Ave.

The building would stretch across all six consolidated lots, with a front entrance and parking access off Saucier.

The project is being spearheaded by Edmonton-based Westrich Pacific Corp.

Plans outline details for 171 units, split between studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom suites, as well as three townhomes. Seventy-five percent are slated to be two-bedroom units.

Thousands of square feet are also being set aside for both indoor and outdoor amenity space, including two large second floor roof decks.

A large white laser cut metal screen with various sized circular cutouts is proposed to face the highway.

At least one home set for teardown along Highway 97 has been the scene of a high-profile police operation.
