Major police incident shuts down Harvey Ave.

A significant police operation unfolded before dawn Tuesday around a house on Highway 97 between Richter and Ethel Street.

Police, with guns drawn, were joined by special units.

As daylight arrived they closed in on the property using an armoured vehicle.

Snipers were also positioned around the house and at least one police dog was on scene.

A witness told Kelowna10 she saw two people arrested earlier.

It was not immediately clear how many people were still in the building.

Our Kelowna10 reporter said one further arrest was made and special units moved into the property.

RCMP have asked the public to stay clear of the Richter St. area around Harvey Ave.

That portion of the highway remained closed.

Traffic was backed up in both directions along the highway and parallel routes.
