This event is about teaching tech and fostering industry growth

Upcoming event will feature speakers about web3, NFTs, crypto and more

  • Variety of speakers and panelists
  • Proceeds will go toward Metro Community

Educating about new technology and giving back to a marginalized community is what one local event is striving for.

Web3 Okanagan will be the first event held at Metro Hub downtown next week. It will feature a variety of speakers talking about the metaverse, NFTs, and more.

Web3 is a term describing the new era of the web, centered around the blockchain. The shift will be towards online currency, property rights and ownership, as well as new forms of governance.

“You can expect an interactive session, lots of learning, lots of talk about how you use these technologies to actually help grow your businesses and empower the future of tech,” Chris Bertulli, co-creator of Web3 Okanagan told Kelowna10.

“We want to continue to grow [our] tech hub, [and] these are the technologies of the future, so it’s on us to learn how to use them and grow with them.”

Daniel Gray, CEO of Rufflife Rescues, will emcee the event and said he’s looking forward to listening to all the speakers, but he’s particularly interested in hearing Pela.Earth CEO Matt Bertulli talk about how Pela will be using the blockchain to fight climate change.

Other speakers at the conference include Lorne Sugarman, CEO of Metaverse Group, Ty Ward, founder of BookCoin.com, and Dustin Walper, CEO of Newton. There will also be a variety of panelists and hosts.

Each will talk about different areas of tech, such as the future of digital property, how NFTs can be used to empower creators, and how building crypto exchange will make web3 easier for everyone to participate in.

All proceeds from Web3 Okanagan will be donated to the Metro Community Church. Among other things, it provides support to those experiencing homelessness.

“We’re so grateful for the support with this event to help the ministries and the work metro does in the downtown,” executive pastor Jeff Simla said.

The event will be on Feb. 15 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
