Digital dogs making a real difference

Local entrepreneurs launch NFT project in partnership with the BC SPCA

A new digital art project is creating 3D dogs and partnering with the BC SPCA to donate money through cryptocurrency.

RuffLife Rescues will donate 40 per cent of profit to the BC SPCA, which could lead to a donation of upwards of $1 million. Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are easy to trade, one-of-a-kind digital assets traded on the blockchain.

“Our goal is to pay them in crypto, which will be the first time in Western Canada that a charity has accepted money in crypto,” Daniel Gray, Founder and CEO of RuffLife Rescues told Kelowna10.

“Every single purchase that is done on the blockchain is actually transparent and trackable.”

Gray said he wants to give back to the BC SPCA because it’s a non-profit that has been a big part of his life. His family adopted a puppy from the organization when he was six years old, and the experience sparked an interest in him.

“When I was in college and high school, any opportunity that I had, I actually volunteered my time at the SPCA,” Gray said.

“So, when I was looking at NFT projects and which charity we wanted to select to give a percentage of our proceeds to, it was hands down the SPCA.”

There are 8,888 3D dogs part of the launch. Gray said they have a team of artists and three developers creating the digital NFT rescues.

“What’s really cool is it’s called generative art. So, it’s actually nine base characteristics of dogs with 150 attributes,” he explained.

“When somebody goes and purchases one of our dogs, it’s going to be randomized.”

The project launches Dec. 20, with live minting starting at 4 p.m. PST.
