The changing look of a Kelowna neighbourhood
The first plans for what will likely be a massive redevelopment of the Capri Centre have come to city hall.
GSL Group has put forward schematics for a 23-storey tower on the corner of Sutherland Avenue and Capri Street.
The building, with 269 units, will sit upon a five-floor podium, which includes both above and below-ground parking.
The development consists of a mix of 159 one-, and 101 two-bedroom suites, as well as six townhomes and just three studio apartments.
It’s not clear if the apartments would be to rent or own.
The application said the location is central to the development of the Capri-Landmark Urban Centre and is in a “strategic” place for population and economic growth.
“1835 Gordon Dr. is a forward-thinking proposal that responds to the future intentions and objectives of the 2040 Plan,” the documents read.
GSL Group has grand plans for the redevelopment of Capri Centre. The group’s original mega project included 14 massive residential towers and an NHL-sized skating rink.
Revised long-term concepts now show a scaled back project, with fewer tall buildings, and additional low-rise, mixed-use buildings, but maintains it’s residential focus.
GSL Group also owns Prospera Place, as well as the parking lots surrounding the arena. The company recently put forward plans to erect three massive residential towers in the parking lot around there.
The project still needs to circulate through city hall before coming to lawmakers for approval.
