She's getting in trouble with her latest sounds
Award winning vocalist Anna Jacyszyn and her quartet of talent will be setting the Creekside Theatre stage alight on Saturday October 28, with a concert of her original songs, peppered with fan favorites.
Ahead of the show, she dropped by the 103.1 Beach Radio studio to give some insight on what to expect.
Below is a transcription of the interview.
Anna Jacysyzn: It's called ‘Can I Sing a Song for You’ and it's on Oct. 28 at the Creekside Theatre. The show is basically a curated version of songs that I wrote and the stories that are inspired or fall behind the stories. Some are sordid, some are sad, but mostly they’re where my inspiration is at the time that I wrote the songs. I got together with Loni (Loni Moger, guitar) and Stefan (Stefan Bienz, double bass) and we're putting on a show as a result of that.
AJ: So, last year at the Fringe Festival, we did a version of this, and it got Best in Fringe. And even though not a lot of people showed up to Fringe, when I was given the opportunity to perform at the Creekside Theatre, my first feelings were, I want to do ‘Can I Sing a Song for You’ again. Because, not only do I love singing our stuff, but I also really like playing with this band and I think it's going to be fun.
AJ: Inspiration usually comes from the heart, whatever I'm feeling. So, a lot of things from when I was broken or when I was healing or when I'm walking through a forest and I have a smell, a word or a stanza comes to me. Even recently, Loni and I were writing a song, and he was just doing a quick little loop for a soundcheck. And I went “record that, I want that.” And now it's a full song and we're going to surprise everybody at the very end of the show with a brand-new song.
AJ: I think it'll be totally different because it's a different energy. When you write your own songs and you perform your own material, there's a vulnerability there. I can play and act songs and bring these lyrics that are somebody else's and make them my own. But these are literally my own and every word is a choice. I think people will leave humming and hopefully just feel better about themselves because they know that somebody is just as goofy, weird, or happy as they are.
