What could you do in a Big White gondola cabin?

Iconic elements of Big White are for sale for charity

What have Big White Ski Resort and Ferrari have in common?

They share some iconic flare from the legendary company, Pininfarina, who designed the majestic sports car as well as the 16 original yellow gondola cabins that Big White is now replacing.

“This is the only set of cabins like this in North America,” Eric Bobert, with the resort’s mountain operations and maintenance department told Kelowna10. “They’re from northern Italy, and there’s only one other installation, in Germany, that has the same cabins. But they’re coloured red.”

At this stage, eight of the 16 originals are up for grabs at $5,500 apiece. Proceeds will go to charity.

You can contact the resort to buy one, as long as you can head up with a low bed trailer to take it away. Staff will even help you load it.

Bobert figures regular skiers will be very interested in owning a special piece of the mountain that has been part of their lives for over two decades.

“After 22 years of use I think a lot our pass holders and families have ridden in them, have enjoyed them, have had birthdays, and perhaps proposed in one,” he said.

He said he’s heard a few suggestions on what use the cabins could be put to once their on someone’s private property, including creating a unique fire table.

Ara from 103.1 Beach Radio took a look around and pondered what else you could do in one of these special bubble-shaped cabins.
