Trudeau makes pit stops in the Okanagan

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made a quickfire trip to the Okanagan Monday.

The publicity tour did not include any official announcements nor were media permitted to ask any questions.

Sporting his new summer hair cut, jeans, and a short-sleeved shirt, Trudeau first popped into the Boys and Girls Club in Lake Country.

In a tweet afterwards on his official account, he said ‘we created the Canada Child Benefit to make sure families have the support they need. And on Wednesday, this tax-free benefit is increasing again to help you even more – and to give kids, like the ones I met at the @BGCOkanagan today, the best possible start in life.’

His second stop was at the BC Fruit Growers Packing Plant in the downtown where he toured the facilities and interacted with customers and employees.

There was a lone, placard-waving protestor on the sidewalk outside.

At the end of his visit he was guided to a selection of cherries by his hosts before paying for them with a twenty dollar bill at the checkout.

His last stop was to a local family farm out in Summerland.

While Trudeau was in Kelowna one of his ministers was making an announcement in Vancouver.

Ottawa is providing $870 million to support recovery efforts after the destructive flooding in the province last fall.

British Columbia has asked for about $5 billion from the program, and provincial Public Safety Minister Mike Farnworth says getting access to the money can take time, so this advanced payment is important.
