WATCH: This proposed downtown live music hub has updated its plans

Building on Ellis Street will undergo substantial renovations

A proposed entertainment hub in downtown Kelowna has updated its design nearly two years after it was first proposed.

The team behind Revelry Food + Music Hub are looking to develop a facility with dining room for 250 and standing room for over 500 during live performances.

“This venue is comparable in size to some of the most iconic live music spots in North America, many of which played critical roles as steppingstones for some of our favourite musical acts,” a statement on the company’s website reads.

The new plans have been submitted to city hall for consideration.

Plans originally put forward in August 2020 called for a three-floor building that could function as a restaurant, music hall, or urban ballroom.

That’s been scaled back to just the existing two-floors. The design also calls for a flexible, 550 sq/ft function room to support programming, and private and semi-private events.

The industry landscape has changed “considerably” since the first application two years ago - COVID-19, wildfires, supply chain concerns, labour shortages, inflation – forcing the developers to adjust their plans.

“Of course, these same factors have afforded us the opportunity to incorporate improvements as well, such as enhanced ventilation and even more aggressive action to reduce our environmental footprint,” it said.

The developers said no opening date has been set, “but rest assured we are working relentlessly to provide a permanent home for live music in Kelowna’s evolving downtown core just as soon as we can.”
