WATCH: This event is roaring to help vulnerable animals

Inaugural Fur Ball will raise money for the BC SPCA

  • The event is on May 7 at Summerhill Pyramid Winery
  • The theme for the ball is Roaring Twenties
  • Ticket sales end on April 28

Coming together as a community and raising money for the most vulnerable animals is how one local branch manager for the BC SPCA describes an upcoming gala.

The very first Fur Ball will be hosted at Summerhill Pyramid Winery on May 7.

“All the funds that we raise go towards the most important work that we do in our community to help animals that have been neglected, abused, subject to cruelty, or just abandoned,” Sean Hogan told Kelowna10.

“Your funds really go a long way for us to make a difference for the animals in our community.”

Hogan said there will be plenty of fun games at the event, as well as a Cuddle Lounge for guests to meet some of the BC SPCA animal ambassadors, while appetizers and wine are served.

“We’re doing the theme of Roaring Twenties, so get your flapper dresses and fedoras out for sure and come ready to play,” he said.

An online auction will also begin on May 2 for folks to start raising money ahead of the ball. Ticket holders and the public will be able to take part in the auction.

Hogan said he’s inspired every day to speak for the animals and make a difference. He enjoys leading his team and working to rehome animals that have been neglected or forgotten.

“It takes a village to make a difference for animals, so I love that I get to be at the head of that with the management at the branch,” he said. “The work that we do is essential to all those animals and there are thousands.”

Individual tickets are $195 and a table for eight people is $1,560. Ticket sales end on April 28.

“We’re excited to be bringing our community together for this event,” Hogan said.

“Especially after COVID, we’re already roaring to get together, and we’re excited to welcome you.”
