Sixth annual St ‘Paw’trick’s day dog parade draws a crowd
Peachland’s boardwalk was flooded with furry fidos all decked out in festive colours.
It was the sixth annual St. ‘Paw’trick’s Day dog parade; a community event that started as a simple idea from the daughter of organizer Linda Sarson.
“My daughter was thinking about it six years ago. She said, you know, mom, she says, ‘Let’s do something for Saint Patrick's Day that’s different. Everybody in town has a dog, so why don't we put on a dog parade?” Sarsons told Kelowna10.
“This year it's just fantastic, the people out here and it's amazing the people that they really get into it.”
It had been a wonderful return to form after poor weather made the previous years event less than ideal, and COVID caused prior events to be cancelled or hosted virtually.
The event hosted ten vendors, including Bosley’s pet store, the Okanagan Pet Food Bank, and many more.
Donations to the pet food bank were plentiful, with several residents donating large bags full of supplies to the stand.
Once all those who had registered for the parade had arrived, they headed on down to Peachland’s Heritage Park.
Leading the pooch parade was Peachland mayor Patrick Van Minsel, and among those in attendance was Councillor Randey Brophy, whose dog was decked out for display.
“Oh, this is a great event. It sort of like signals spring is coming and it's St. Patrick's Day,” Brophy said. “It's just a good idea, look at everybody out here. I mean, people vote with their feet. It's a success.”
