Using the power of flowers to showcase gardens while raising money for a good cause.

That’s what residents were able to enjoy Saturday during the Flower Power Garden Tour, which took people around Kelowna and West Kelowna to nine different gardens.

Garden #2 was at Tori Wesszer’s home in West Kelowna. She is a local food blogger, a registered dietitian, and the CEO of Fraîche Living.

“There’s something so special about walking into a garden that has been given some love, it just feels good,” Wesszer told Kelowna10. “It is so cathartic to step in, get your hands dirty, and to plant something and watch it grow.”

The backyard garden was sprawling with a variety of flowers, fruit trees, a vegetable garden, and beautiful Incrediball Hydrangea’s. In the centre of the yard was the patio with a fire table next to the inground pool.

Samantha Ulasy is the owner of Margaret Valley Landscaping, an all-female team serving clients from Lake Country to Peachland. She’s the one who designed, planted, and maintains Wesszer’s garden.

“I live to garden, I love getting my hands dirty, I love unplugging from the world around me and focusing on creating what’s in front of me,” Ulasy said. “I love hearing how beautiful everything looks, seeing everyone’s reactions, inspirations growing in their brains, I love it.”

Part of the proceeds from the event go towards Chefs in the Classroom, a non-profit organization that brings edible education to schools across the Okanagan, teaching them how to grow, cook, and eat local foods. Wesszer is the dietitian on the board of directors for the platform.

“Those are essential life skills that I think are probably the most important skills to teach in school,” Wesszer explained.

“Teaching them the beauty of and the nutrition of eating this food that you grow locally, that you grow yourself.”
