WATCH: The changing face of Kelowna as huge project gets underway

Work starts on city's largest development

  • How big will the development be?
  • Expected to bring major boost in new businesses

The earth has started to be moved on the site of Kelowna’s largest and tallest residential development.

Once completed in the coming years, the company behind the project at Water Street and Leon Avenue, says it will redefine the city’s skyline.

The influx of new residents and retailers is expected to add further momentum to the growing vibrancy and diversity of Kelowna’s downtown core.

The glitzy change to the landscape is also part of efforts to energize a neglected part of the downtown.

Water Street by the Park is a three-tower, multi-phase development next to City Park and promises over half a million square feet of mixed use space, 650 condos, and 45,000 sq/ft of retail and office space. The towers will be 24, 28 and 42-storeys high.

Speaking to what the company claims is the fastest selling development in Kelowna history – 370 homes have sold so far in Towers One and Two – the project is expected to play a major role in revitalizing the immediate area.

“It’s bringing people from all over Canada into a central hub which is going to be super close to the waterfront,” sales director Chad MacTavish told Kelowna10. “As well, it’s going to bring in tons of new businesses. I have never seen more people apply for commercial space in the last few months than for this building.”

MacTavish explained the site is set to become home to numerous boutiques, cafes, service providers, "and all different kinds of businesses that don’t exist here now that are looking to come to the area.”

The city has been a big supporter of the project.

“Water Street by the Park is an impressive example of Orchard Park Properties’ commitment to this city and this community, “ Deputy Mayor Gail Given said at a ground breaking event. “I’m sure that, once completed, this development and the families that will call it home, will make an important contribution to Kelowna’s stature as one of Canada’s most livable cities.”

Orchard Park Properties was co-founded by Anthony Beyrouti and Apriano Meola.

“We feel privileged to be here and build homes that will provide residents with a lifetime of opportunities to enjoy and appreciate Kelowna’s natural beauty, healthy lifestyle and its growing entertainment, dining, shopping and recreation offerings,” Beyrouti said.

Construction of Towers One and Two will happen simultaneously with the larger Tower Two expected to be finished in late 2025. Tower Three will come at a later date.
