Hopping aboard the very latest tech
The temperatures have really taken off, kind of like gas prices, making it the perfect time for you to try your hand at an electric scooter or bike.
Lime, one of the providers of shared electric vehicles in Kelowna, has announced its new Gen4 e-bikes and e-scooters. They boast improvements over their previous offerings, making Kelowna the first city in Canada to have a full fleet of these new models available citywide.
Ara, from 103.1 Beach Radio, took a close look at the transportation options and spoke with Zackary Geneau, Lime's representative in Kelowna.
“One of the biggest things is the swappable batteries,” Geneau told Ara regarding the batteries that are compatible between both the scooter and the e-bike. “That makes life a lot easier for a lot of the drivers that we have. You just go up to the scooter, you swap the batteries and you’re good to go.”
With a short demo, Ara took to the streets on the new Gen4 e-scooter and was immediately off.
“It’s super comfortable to ride,” Geneau explained. “We’ve got enhanced suspension for a smoother ride. The sway to the handlebars makes it a bit more comfortable for the grip for the riders.”
Lime says their new Gen4 bikes boast their most powerful motor to date, and the automatic 2-speed transmission system allows for easier acceleration and a smoother ride.
But power capabilities are not the only thing Lime is improving.
“One thing we want to emphasize is safety. We offer helmets for all our riders, with every scooter and bike you rent, you can unlock the helmet, use it for your ride and also get 10% off your ride.”
Lime has made great strides to improve the safety of their e-vehicles, adding an improved hand brake system to their scooters, as well as a kickstand to avoid scooters being tipped over when parked and therefore reducing sidewalk clutter.
Lime says their mission is to realize a future for transportation that is shared, electric, and carbon free. With the e-rides becoming more and more accessible and sustainable, this future seems closer than ever.
Since Lime launched in Kelowna, 62,000 riders have taken nearly 215,000 trips on their vehicles. This has kept over 50,000 cars off the road, saving up to 21 metric tons of carbon emissions as well as nearly 9000 liters of gas.
