WATCH: Spring has sprung for craft markets in Kelowna

Craft Culture Spring Market back after three years

On early morning mix of rain and snow didn’t stop dozens of people lining up outside the Kelowna Curling Club for the return of the Craft Culture Spring Market.

It was the first in-person spring event since 2019.

Show organizer, Karalyn Lockhart, told Kelowna10, organizers didn’t have any formal spring plans the last two years, but with mandates lifted, shifted their focus.

“People just love to come meet the artists, meet the makers, touch, and feel the products and look at things in-person. It’s just a lot more fun than online shopping,” she said.

The event is anticipated to welcome over 4,000 people throughout the weekend, browsing the work of over 120 vendors.

Lockhart said there’s lots of excitement from organizers and vendors for the weekend.

“It just means our industry can get going again, everyone can do their regular jobs, earn their regular income. Everyone’s happy and grateful to be here,” she said. “We’re grateful we have the support of the community always coming out when they’re available to come and shop at these markets.”

The spring showcase provides a chance to look for stuff for Mother’s Day and Easter, all while supporting local artists and crafters. A summer market is planned for the coming months.

Lockhart said there is a different vibe compared to the bigger Christmas market, which was brought back in December.

“At Christmas, everyone is rushing to get presents for their loved ones. Spring is nice. It’s a little slower paced, you have time to really look at things,” she said. “I think people are buying more for themselves so it’s a great time if you want to treat yourself and do some personal shopping.”
