WATCH: Snowbirds race across local skies

Famous jets put on a show for Kelowna

  • 45-minute shows on Saturday and Sunday
  • Part of YLW 75th anniversary celebration

The Canadian Forces Snowbirds soared, swooped, and spiraled across the Kelowna skies Saturday while thousands gathered along the waterfront, or from countless other vantage points around the lake to enjoy the exciting spectacle.

The famous aerobatics team was performing to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Kelowna International Airport.

Seven CT-114 Tutors flew for 45 minutes over Okanagan Lake before heading back to the airport for the ‘Wings and Wheels’ event at the new KF Centre for Excellence.

The pilots demonstrated their vast aviation experience as they performed multiple flybys in intricate formations, only a few feet from each other.

The lead plane known as Snowbird 1 directed everything that was done in the air through their onboard communications.

104.7 The Lizard broadcast live audio from the cockpits during the show and will be doing the same when the second goes airborne Sunday at 1 p.m.
