Rock The Lake Music Festival returns to Kelowna, August 5 to 7, after a three-year pandemic-related absence and the organizers have promised what they’re calling their best line-up ever.

The three-day annual classic rock festival features the likes of British 1980s new wave outfit A Flock of Seagulls, co-founder of the Beach Boys Brian Wilson with Al Jardine, Canadian rock band The Tea Party, and other popular stalwarts of the industry including Trooper and Chilliwack.

American act Eve 6, and Canadian singer-songwriter Bif Naked are among the roster which also includes Moist, Carole Pope & Rough Trade, The Spoons, Grapes of Wrath, and The Kings.

“I think people are very, very pumped for this; it’s a long time coming,” senior director of marketing at GSL Group,” George Fadel told Kelowna10. “It’s a who’s who of classic rock bands and some massive names – Grammy Award winners, Juno Award winners … we’ve beyond thrilled.”

The fifth iteration of the popular outdoor event in the Prospera Place parking lot is brought to the public by GSL and presented by two big local radio stations: 104.7 The Lizard and103.1 Beach Radio.

“People have been clamouring for Rock the Lake to return,” interim program director Corey Fischer said. “ In the last two years, we’ve probably answered a thousand calls from listeners on both stations wondering when RTL is coming back.”

Fischer said people love the familiarity with the music they love.

“People want what they know, and they know RTL delivers every year. They hear these amazing artists on the radio, and now they get to see them live, in downtown Kelowna, out in the summertime air.”

Ticketing info will be announced on Thursday, May 12 with the on-sale taking place Friday, May 13 at 10 a.m.

While the stage and seating is all outdoors, the interior of Prospera Place will be open for patrons to cool off with full facilities, concession stands and a licensed restaurant.

“This is a great sign that everything is going back to normal,” Fadel said. “We’ll have a lot of tourists coming, a lot of locals here too, so I think it’s going to be a very special event. People are just eager to have fun… this is kind of a ‘welcome back’ party for us.”

GSL said the event will also partner with One Tree Planted this year to help replenish the forests in British Columbia.

It is committing to plant one tree in British Columbia for every ticket sold in an effort to help restore the forests that have been damaged by recent forest fires and natural disasters.
