WATCH: Ogopogo spotted at Kelowna grocery store

Giant depiction of legendary creature puts fizz into grocery store visit

Who says playing with Lego as a kid doesn’t pay off?

It sure did for Eric Falkenberg.

The Assistant Operations Manager at Save-On-Foods has brought legend to life with his latest creation, a giant sculpture of Ogopogo.

The massive art piece consists of nearly 1,100 cases of soda, which is almost 13,000 cans.

“I’ve been doing it for about five years,” he told Kelowna10. “I won a national contest by accident and that just inspired me to keep going.”

The project starts with graph paper. The design is drawn out and planned intricately, taking upwards of 40 hours over two weeks.

Then, it all comes together in one long night.

“I’ve been artistic, kind of, that way, [my whole life],” he said. “I always liked to draw as a kid and play with Legos. I just look at it as adult Legos.”

Falkenberg has won several national awards for his designs that spring up at the Cooper Road location every few months. He often designs sculptures for holidays and special events, like Easter, the Super Bowl, and Halloween.

And his hard work earns more than just accolades from customers.

His creative constructions have earned him two meals with the president of Coca-Cola, as well.
