Here's some affordable meat for your family budget

Toby finds out how to stretch your dollar at the meat counter

With the price of groceries on the rise, many people are looking for alternatives to pricey cuts of meat.

Toby Tannas from 103.1 Beach Radio dropped into Lakeview Market to learn that you don't have to skip the meat counter to save money.

While the price of some cuts have risen as much as 10 per cent in the past year, Assistant Meat Manager, Brian Alexander, says there are different options that won't set you back as much as pricey tenderloin or t-bone.

Top sirloin is about $10 less per pound and is very versatile.

From the grill, as a steak or kabob, to the wok, and even in your favourite stew, top sirloin is the work horse of the beef counter (so to speak).

Alexander says to get the best bang for your buck, buy a top sirloin roast and be your own butcher at home.

It's one way to keep that special Sunday dinner on the table as food prices continues to soar.
