WATCH: Heavy snow storm sweeps in from the Pacific

There is plenty more snow to come.

It may be early April, but it’s winter on regional highway systems with a heavy snow storm sweeping in from the Pacific.

Authorities are warning against non-essential travel, especially on elevated sections.

A multiple-vehicle crash closed Highway 33 near Big White Monday midday amid very challenging driving conditions between Rupert Mainline and McCulloch Rd.

There is plenty more snow to come.

The storm warning remains in effect for upper elevations in the wake of the passing front.

Environment Canada said the moist southwest flow will continue to give flurries, heavy at times to the Coquihalla highway. Total snow accumulations up to 40 cm can be expected before the snow tapers off later Tuesday.

Sections of Highway 3, especially the Paulson Summit and Kootenay Pass are also in for heavy snowfall.

The warning said drivers should consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.

Rapidly accumulating snow will make travel difficult.

Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.
