WATCH: Gord Milsom discusses his political aspirations

Milsom has served on council since 2008

Gord Milsom is looking to secure a second term as West Kelowna’s mayor in the fall municipal election.

Milsom was elected to the role in 2018. He’s held public office in the community since 2007, occupying a spot on the Westside District Municipality council when it was incorporated in 2007. He was re-elected in 2008 and 2011.

“There are a lot of good things happening here within the community,” he told Kelowna10. “It is a dynamic community and I’d like to stay part of it and help move the community even further along over the next four years.”

During his time in the top job, the city has embarked on several large projects, including the Rose Valley Water Treatment Plant, construction of the first city hall, and, more recently, replacing the Lakeview Heights firehall.

He’d appreciate being around to see those projects through, he said, noting their importance in moving the city forward.

Milsom also wants to continue to play a role in ongoing advocacy work with various governments and organizations, such as BC Hydro and work to create a redundant power supply. Wildfire threatened the lone transmission line in 2021.

He said more work needs to be done in building solid relationships, but it can take time to cement those.

“I think I’ve proven that I’ve been able to build those strong relationships that will be beneficial for the community both now and in the future,” he said. “Together with my enthusiasm, my energy levels, my desire to see a better West Kelowna, more prosperous West Kelowna, and greater westside, that hopefully I continue to receive the support of the community going forward.”

Voters head to the polls on Oct. 15.
