RCMP called to elementary school after receiving a call of a threat.
Kelowna RCMP say they’re investigating the circumstances of ‘a threat’ that led to Quigley Elementary School having to be evacuated Monday. However, they are not disclosing the nature of the threat.
Central Okanagan Schools (SD23) said, out of an abundance of caution and according to RCMP instruction, staff safely evacuated the school around midday.
In a statement, SD23 said students were quickly relocated to a nearby District site, Hollywood Road Education Services (HRES), and parents were notified of the situation as soon as possible.
By promptly following safety procedures, school staff were able to organize and move students quickly and safely, SD23 said.
Students were provided with supervised instruction in the gymnasium at the HRES site until they could be collected by parents or until their usual end of day routine began, the statement read.
School is expected to resume as usual Tuesday.
Inspector Beth McAndie, the Kelowna RCMP Investigative Services Officer, said, “We take these calls very seriously, and we are committing our resources to ensure the safety of the children and our community.”
