WATCH: Developer plans ‘class, style’ as part of Gordon Drive project

Building would replace former Chinook Motel

Plans have come forward that would see the Chinook Motel across from Capri Centre Shopping Mall torn down and replaced with a multi-use development.

Documents submitted to city hall detail a six-storey complex with apartments, townhomes, and commercial space fronting Gordon Drive.

The 65-unit building will be a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom homes. The proposed design includes space for a swimming pool, gym, and shared amenity space, including one outdoors.

The architect, Langley-based JY Architecture, wrote that “the units will be creatively expressed within the main structure, evoking a sense of class and style found in the upscale neighbourhoods of many large Canadian cities.”

“The circulation and surrounding green space garden planting areas will encourage outdoor social interaction.”

The project also addresses the transition from high-density projects expected to come on the east side of Gordon, to lower west side development, the architects wrote.

Most residential parking will be in a basement parkade, and the commercial and townhome parking will be in a ground level parkade.

The design still needs to circulate around city hall before coming to lawmakers for consideration.
