WATCH: Dads, diesels, and automobiles at City Park

Boyd Father’s Day Car Show returns after two years

  • Hundreds of cars, trucks, rat rods, and more
  • Raising money for the Child Advocacy Centre

For the first time since 2019, friends and family braved the rain in City Park on Sunday to check out cool cars, lifted trucks, and more, at the Boyd Autobody & Glass Father’s Day Charity Car Show.

Methal Abougoush, Okanagan GM at Boyd’s and an organizer of the car show that started over 20 years ago, said it feels great to be back in the park for the event.

“I’m here surrounded by people like-minded like myself, that just love the automotive scene,” he told Kelowna10. “We have four-wheel drives, we have motorcycles, boats, anything with a motor in it I’m in.”

The free family event was bustling with car enthusiasts checking out some of the most unique vehicles the Okanagan has to offer. A variety of vendors were selling food and drinks, and a live cover band was playing the biggest rock n’ roll hits from the 80s.

“This morning we started out with a torrential downpour,” Abougoush explained. “Considering the weather, we’ve got us a show here and there’s 450 to 500 cars.”

There were tons of classic cars, newer supercars, and some massive trucks with hydraulic systems that could move up and down with the touch of a button.

Another car seemed to be the perfect blend of vehicle and beverage-maker: it was selling iced coffee that came directly from taps on the outside.

Money raised through the event is going towards the Child Advocacy Centre of Kelowna (CAC), which supports those impacted by child abuse and neglect. They were raffling off a 2011 Mustang Convertible for one lucky winner.

“For me, the charity of choice always has to do with helping kids,” Abougoush said. “It also surrounds the whole concept of the Father’s Day car show: family, kids, their dads, and cool cars.”

Over the last two years with support from sponsors, volunteers, and associates, Boyd’s has contributed over $142,000 to CAC.
