WATCH: Can third time be the charm for this Mission property?

Development would be surrounded by agricultural land

Another proposal has come forward for a wedge-shaped plot of land in the Mission.

Documents have been submitted to city hall for a 16-unit townhome project at the corner of Lakeshore, Chute, and Barnaby Road.

Called The Niche, the project would consist of five, three-storey builds. Two of the buildings will have four units, another two will have three homes, and one building will have two suites.

The townhomes are slated to have rooftop patios, promising sweeping views of Okanagan Lake.

The plans submitted by Carrington Homes still need to circulate city hall before coming in front of lawmakers for consideration.

It’s not the first time a proposal has come forward for the property.

In 2017, lawmakers struck down plans for a 33-unit, four-storey apartment building that could have grown to 42-units. Concerns over traffic, the building’s height, and impact from the surrounding farm practices were highlighted.

In 2006, a proposal for a 26-unit condo building was axed, according to old agenda documents. The building was slated to be designed into the hill, with each unit facing the lake.
