WATCH: B.C. teen's amazing back-flipping run is over on American Idol

TV talent show sensation has a chat with Ara from Beach Radio

B.C.’s very own Cam Whitcomb loved every minute of his extraordinary run on one of the biggest TV shows in the world and really did not want to come home.

But viewers and the judges had other ideas as his glittering stint in the limelight finally came to an end Monday night.

He was one of the six contestants eliminated from the Top 20: 10 got to stay through votes from viewers while another four remained based on the verdict from the judges.

Whitcomb performed “If It Hadn’t Been for Love” by The Steeldrivers, having been told he was not one of the 10 finalists selected by viewers. His final moments on stage were somewhat subdued and lacked the high-energy sparkle that had dominated his previous opportunities. One of the judges, Katy Perry, noted his lack of buzz but also figured it was his best vocal performance to date.

In an Instagram post acknowledging his appreciation for everyone who supported him, Whitcomb said, in part: " I started with a backflip and it ends with a backflip. Thank you so much to all the support through out my time on @AmericanIdol. THANK YOU! You haven’t heard the last of me yet. You have all changed my life. "

The 18-year-old from Kamloops spoke with Ara from 103.1 Beach Radio ahead of the Easter weekend. And on Sunday night, he cracked the Top 20.

The teen, who had no experience performing live on stage before entering the TV show, delivered another powerful performance Sunday night in front of the audience and mega celebrity judges.

And, true to form, Cam delivered another trademark backflip to end his rendition of "Changes" by Black Sabbath. He told Ara from his Los Angeles base, the experience has been like a dream.

“Every morning I’m waking up pinching myself,” he said. “I’m loving every minute of it. It’s pretty cool.”

He said his family can’t get enough of him either.

“My family is stoked, my grandparents are stoked. It seems all they want to talk about is their American idol.”

Whitcomb has come a long way in the show since his breakthrough audition in front of Perry. Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan, where he informed them he’d never sung in front of anyone except his family.

And the young man who fixes motorbikes in the summer, and works on the pipeline for the rest of the year, said he did not want his incredible moment in the limelight to end just yet.

“I’m so excited and I’m praying to God… like, as much as I love Canada, I don’t want to go home yet,” he told Ara. “As much as I like working on the pipeline, I don’t want to go home yet.”
