Here's how Kelowna is staying cool in the heat

How locals are dealing with the challenging weather

From ice cream, to swimming, and even UV vests for dogs, people are finding ways to stay cool during the summer heat in the Okanagan.

“I just stay cool by looking cool,” one person told Kelowna10. “I’ve got my shades on, I’m under a tree, under the shade.”

Another person, Lidia, just arrived in the city from Brazil and chose to move here because of all the summer sunshine.

“Here is more dry, but the hotness is the same,” she said. “I lived in Rio de Janeiro, so I also had beaches, and I’m used to this hot feeling, I like it.”

One couple kept cool by relaxing in the lake with their dogs who they placed in the refreshing water. Their pets were also wearing thin UV jackets to protect their skin from the sun rays.

Heat warnings have been put in place by the province with temperatures expected to near 40 C some days this week, according to Environment Canada.
