Trying Dry January? This brewery hopes to make it easier

Local brewery helps fill the need for those going dry

The month of January symbolizes new goals, and new beginnings, be it getting back to the gym or giving ‘Dry January’ a try.

The campaign, which started in the United Kingdom, promotes staying sober by avoiding alcohol for the entire month.

While it can be beneficial for ones health, it might feel intimidating or challenging in some social circles.

That's where Kettle River Brewing Co. comes in.

The North End brewery is looking to make it easier for those who are going alcohol-free.

The brewery has imported what it's self-proclaiming as the largest non-alcoholic beer selection in the Okanagan.

“We’re proud of the local brews we make, but there are lots of people experimenting and going dry for January who are sober curious, and we thought we’d like to appeal to everybody,” Courtney Koga said, one of the brewery's partners.

It's menu of non-alcoholic drinks includes a Gerstel classic mild, a Stanley Park peach wheat ale from Vancouver, and a Nitro Brew stout from the U.S.A.

Koga said there has been a boon of drinkers opting for Dry January this year, with interest building early in December.

“People are excited. They were lining up, knocking on the door back in December, asking about [non-alcoholic] takeaways, and wanting to come in with their friends, and trying samples," she said. "It’s been very well received so far.”

Sarah, from 104.7 the Lizard, is participating in the month, and swung by the brewery to see how the non-boozy versions stack up to their potent counterparts.
