Competition will be underway at City Park this weekend
Big splashes and lots of personality is what judges will be looking for Saturday at City Park.
The inaugural Kelowna Made event will be happening downtown to celebrate nature, heritage, and culture with a variety of tournaments, performances, and workshops – all things that make Kelowna great.
One of the events is the belly flop championship, where participants will be showing off their best plunging skills.
“I’m going to be looking for big personalities, funny outfits, and I’m going to see those big, big splashes,” Christina Unger, one of the judges told Kelowna10. “I’m looking forward to seeing some silly dives and some good, positive energy coming back into the Okanagan.”
Unger has been in the diving sport for the past 14 years and is the head coach at the Kelowna Springboard Diving Club.
Big Ginger from 103.1 Beach Radio met up with Unger to learn some tips on how to make the biggest belly flop.
“Making sure we’re getting as flat as we can over the water, like a big piece of paper,” she said. “Right before we hit the water, turn into a little ball to protect our face [and] once we’re in the water, opening back up to create that really big splash.”
Big Ginger put those tips to the test and got judged by Unger herself.

The belly flop contest will be held at Cold Sands Beach from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
