No need to skip those walks
Winter can be tough for us all, but it can be especially hard on your dog's feet.
As Toby from 103.1 Beach Radio points out, while some dogs might find comfort in wearing booties, not all dogs like them, and some refuse to walk in them.
If you find yourself with a pooch who prefers bare paws over booties, here are some tips to keep their feet in tip-top shape this winter.
Before heading out for your walk, pay attention to the hair between your dog's pads.
This is where snowballs tend to stick, causing discomfort for your furry friend.
If you can give those hairs a little trim and keep them nice and short, it'll make your dog's walk much more comfortable.
After your walk, always dry your dog's feet or use a wet wipe to clean them off.
Remember, not everybody uses dog-friendly salt on the pavements, and the last thing you want is for your dog to ingest any harmful substances while cleaning their own paws.
Speaking of salt, if you're using it on your sidewalks and driveway, make sure it's pet-friendly. You don't want to risk burning their sensitive paw pads.
Just as we use lotion to keep our hands from drying and cracking in the cold, a little balm on the pads of their feet will keep them supple and prevent cracking.
Remember, just because it's snowing doesn't mean you should skip your walks.
Dogs, like us, need their exercise in every season.
So, leash up and enjoy the winter wonderland with your four-legged friend, keeping their comfort and safety in mind.
