Here's all the details for the 2023 Living Things Festival

Unique lineup looks to bring people back to live performances

The Living Things International Arts Festival is back with performers from France, Montreal, Alberta, and the Okanagan Valley looking to entertain, inspire, and instigate conversation.

Performances include a one-on-one immersive audio experience at the University of British Columbia Okanagan Library, and a circus like act with a large aluminum ring.

Artistic Director Neil Cadger told Kelowna10 the reason people should come out is because of the nuances of what live theatre can bring to an audience.

“This is not sitting at home being able to control what’s on the images. It’s like the circus, there’s risk involved, it’s exciting, it’s very sensual and it’s going out and seeing something you’ve never seen before,” he explained.

Last year, the festival went ahead as planned, but with COVID-19 restrictions in places.

This time, Cadger expects it to be an even better experience.

“Normally you look out and see people’s faces and you get that sense as a performer. This year we just hope people are going to be ready to come back out,” he explained. “This is a party, a winter party of performances of all sorts music, dance, theatre. All high quality on tour from various parts of the world and I hope that attracts an audience.”

Performances will also be held at the Rotary Centre for the Arts, Black Box Theatre, and the Kelowna Community Theatre.

This year’s line up features Manual (Jan. 17-21), Lontano/Instante (Jan. 20-21), Before the Words: A Workshop with Jeremy James (Jan. 21-22), Objects in Motion (Jan. 24 & 31), Mutatis Mutandis (Jan. 26-29), Bois (Jan. 26-29), LISTEN HERE (Feb. 3), Looks Like Sounds (Feb. 4)

Tickets can be found online.
