This photographer captured an electrifying proposal

Wedding photographer captures once-in-a-lifetime shot

On the trails of Knox Mountain, a sudden change in weather created quite the spark between a couple during their proposal photoshoot.

Okanagan Photographer Danika Camba was hired to take shots of the now engaged couple, Luke and Ailsa.

The shoot, which started as just a “couples photo session” turned into a proposal orchestrated by Luke, who had invited Ailsa’s parents and closest friends to attend the occasion.

“She looks at him and he asks her to marry him. She pulls him in for a hug and says ‘yes’”, Camba told Kelowna10. “And at that literal moment I kid you not, that is when the lightning struck and the thunder rumbled. It was bizarre, like we can’t make this stuff up.”

After the proposal, and the flash of lightning, Camba says there was excitement all around, lots of emotion, and hugs between friends and family.

Once she got back to her car she sent the photo to her friends, who were astounded.

“They immediately were like, ‘you have to post this everywhere, send it to the news’”, she explained. “It’s been really funny reading all the comments on the news channels. People are either like, ‘oh, that’s a bad sign,’ or like, ‘Zeus is really happy.’”

She said she never expected to have this photo blow up so much, having already been interviewed several times, and making a TikTok of the story that has over 30,000 views now.

However, Camba doesn’t believe she’ll have a photo that will ever top this one.

“I don’t expect or plan to be photographing lightning strikes many more times. My style of photography is very documentary, so whatever happens, I’m happy with that,” she said. “But it’s been a fun little blip in my career.”
