These gently used items make fashion affordable
In a world driven by fast fashion and fleeting trends, there's a movement stirring among fashion-savvy individuals.
They're shifting gears, redefining their shopping habits, and embracing a more sustainable approach to fashion.
And it’s this growing niche that Kelowna’s newest resale clothing store, Plato's Closet, is filling.
“There is a real change in the way people are shopping and gently used is the direction everyone is going,” co-owner Ann Davis told Kelowna10.
“A lot of people also find it much easier to afford what they need by going in the direction of gently used or thrifting.”
Davis is no stranger to the world of re-sale. She and her husband started their journey with Play It Again Sports 10 years ago, followed by Once Upon a Child five years later.
Play it Again Sports markets new and quality used sporting goods and fitness gear, while Once Upon a Child caters to the general needs of newborns to pre-teens.
The pair saw Plato's Closet as a natural evolution that meets the demands of the community.
Having recently unveiled its grand opening, the response has been nothing short of phenomenal.
“The customers and the people we have gotten to know over the ten years, really appreciate these types of businesses in our community,” Davis added. “It is just really very rewarding and to see [the businesses] do well, and to see [shoppers] super excited about it. It leaves a little bit of a legacy in the long run.”
Plato’s Closet considers gently used items every day, with no appointment necessary to swing by for a clothing appraisal. Clothes should be laundered and laid flat in a bin, box or bag, to make the process as smooth as possible.
