This Kelowna MLA won’t run for re-election in 2024

Long-time lawmaker opting to hang up his hat

Long-time provincial lawmaker, Norm Letnick, will not seek re-election in 2024.

The Kelowna-Lake Country MLA was sent to Victoria for his fourth term in the 2020 snap-election. He was first elected to provincial politics in 2009.

He pointed to the newly redrawn electoral boundaries as supporting his decision to hang up his hat.

“With the addition of a fourth Kelowna riding, I believe this is a good time to encourage new people to step forward and compete for the challenge and privilege of representing Kelowna and Lake Country voters in the B.C. Legislature,” he said in a statement.

Letnick said he will continue to serve out his time under the BC United banner until the end of his term.

“Together, we have accomplished a lot but there is much more work to be done,” he added.

Letnick intends to continue to serve the community in a non-elected role after the October 2024 vote, especially around entry-level housing.

He thanked his constituents for their continued support and wished luck to any future candidates.
