Local chef wins big at Pizza Expo
Damien Moore, co-owner and chef at Jackknife Brewing put their establishment on notice after a stellar showing at the 2025 International Pizza Expo in Las Vegas back on March 24-26th.
He clinched first place in the International Cheese Slice category and second overall in the World’s Best Cheese Slice Finals, edging out top-tier competition from around the world.
“I just went to go try and learn more about making pizza,” Moore told Sarah from 104.7 The LIZARD. “There were tons of competitors back there — all way more experienced than I am. They had so much knowledge to pass on, and when I found out I won, I was floored. I don’t know how — I must’ve had a horseshoe somewhere.”
Jackknife Brewing, already a local hotspot for craft beer and bold, flavour-forward food, now has another reason to brag: their pizza is officially world-class.
So, what makes Jackknife’s pies so special?
“We do a long fermentation dough,” Moore explained. “We bake pretty hard here, so it's a little bit darker than most people would bake their pizza. Good quality products.”
That same signature dough was packed up and hauled all the way from Kelowna to Las Vegas — and it clearly delivered.
