This hidden gem is a slice of Latin America in Kelowna

Nestled in the heart of Kelowna lies a hidden gem that many may pass by without a second glance.

A flashing, multi-colored digital sign is all that signals to the community this treasure exists. But it's enough to draw curious customers inside TAMM Mexican Restaurant to experience a little slice of Latin America.

The Latin Market, tucked away in the corner of the restaurant, is a neatly packed bounty of Latin American goods. The shelves proudly display a range of salsas and beans, hot sauces, and dips, alongside racks of authentic Mexican spices and fare.

Among the top buys, the corn tortillas and chips are a must-have, according to Sarah Nick, from 104.7. She swung by to learn more about this unique cultural space in the city.

But these aren't the only yummies that keep the customers coming back. Tostadas and green salsa are also hot commodities.

“For many Mexican people, when they come here, it feels like home,” Maria, the restaurant’s manager, said.

The most special item on the shelves is Gansito. This snack cake is a true delicacy that has become a staple in many Mexican households. Described as a strawberry-flavored jelly and crème-filled cake with chocolate-flavored coating, it's a treat that many look forward to on their birthday.

Customers who know about the Gansito flock to the restaurant for a birthday celebration, eager to see the small snack served with a candle or two atop.

“It looks so pretty, and people get surprised and love it when they get it,” Maria added with a smile.
