First annual Okanagan Screen Awards coming up
Get ready to walk the red carpet and mingle with the creative minds of the Okanagan, because the First Annual Okanagan Screen Awards are set to be presented.
The Okanagan Society of Independent Film (OSIF) describes the show as a prestigious film festival celebrating local film & local talent in the Okanagan Valley.
“We really wanted to celebrate all content creators,” OSIF President Chelsea McEvoy told Kelowna10. “So, people that may not be recognized as much like for profit filmmakers, commercials, corporate, wedding videographers. We really wanted to encapsulate all of those filmmaking creatives.”
The festival’s goal is to create opportunity for like minded creatives to showcase their work, network, and collaborate.
Within the blossoming Okanagan film community, McEvoy said it’s important to showcase all the incredible talent of the many different people who live here, be they cinematographers, directors, or drone operators.
“These are independent filmmakers that may not necessarily have had a budget to create this, and they are amazing at what they do,” she said. “I’m so excited for the community to see the vast and immense creativity that the Okanagan has.”
The event will take place on Sat., Feb. 25 at the Kelowna Community Theatre and Black Box Theatre from 12 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
