Ryan bangs out a metal classic
This week marks the release of one of the most important metal albums of all time, Black Sabbath's self-titled debut release.
Ryan, from 104.7 The Lizard, grabbed his axe to play one of the most iconic tracks, as well as teach a little metal history.
The band's iconic sound was actually the consequences of a workplace accident.
Guitarist, Tony Iommi, had removed the the tips of his fingers while cutting sheet metal, and had to switch his guitar's string to lighter gauge banjo strings to ease the pain that playing now caused.
In order to counteract the now 'thin' sound created by these new strings, Iommi tuned his guitar down and heavily incorporated power chords, thus creating the thick, heavy sound we know today.
But it wasn't just their music that contributed to the genre of metal, it was their image as well, using occult imagery to add to their already dark songs.
The band's bassist, Geezer Butler, said that they wanted to create "the musical equivalent of horror films."
