These three expert tips can transform your room

There are so many simple ways to enhance your home without upending entire rooms.

From shelving to rearranging, there are three simple but expert tips to remember when you want to transform and freshen up a room, according to interior designer Dianne Haber.

Declutter

“Get rid of things you don’t need,” Haber said.

This can be a tough step for everyone, but it will allow new energy into a space, she said.

To help eliminate pesky items, turning to floating shelves can be the perfect way to keep any accessories and collectables to a minimum.

“You can’t hide things on those shelves. They aren’t storage units,” Haber said.

Floating shelves can create a visually pleasing and creative area for interesting texture and pops of color. The shelves can also add a touch on interest without additional bulk.

Rearrange your furniture

Raise your hand if you have ever put a couch or chair in one spot, and never moved it.

Don’t worry. You are not alone.

But Haber said a quick and easy way to transform and refresh a space can involve simply rearranging some or all the furniture.

“When you have a beautiful view, it is fabulous to do seasonal arranging. Maybe you want to arrange your furniture, in the spring and summer, to capture the beautiful lake or mountain view,” Haber explained. “Perhaps in the fall and winter, we really focus the furniture on the fireplace when you want a more intimate and cozier feel.”

Small accessories

It’s the small things that can really make or break a space.

Be it a simple accessory or throw pillow, or even a new area rug, small item changes can bring instant gratification.

“With some great neutral items, the addition of seasonal greenery/florals and even changing an area rug can really give your space a completely different vibe,” Haber said. “I like to change up accent pillows, throws and even art seasonally to keep it interesting. Switching table lamps from one room to another - if the scale works - is a simple and fun way to repurpose items.”
