The city’s biggest gas bar turns on its pumps

Okanagan’s first 24 pump operation lures customers with cheaper gas.

  • Costco Gas Bar ready
  • Fuel prices cheaper than other stations
  • Costco Warehouse opening expected next year

A small part of the new Costco facility is open for business. The highly anticipated Costco Gas Bar is now open along Baron Road and is targeting motorists with cheaper fuel.

The new site has 24 pumps, attendants to direct traffic, and on opening day Friday was selling gas cheaper than any other outlet in town.

Gas prices around Kelowna were in the range of $141.9 - $145.9 for regular. The Costco gas bar listed their price as $134.9 for regular and $144.9 for premium.

Martin Groleau is the vice president and general merchandising manager of marketing for Costco. He explained to Kelowna10 the opening was a soft launch meant to test the gas bar’s capability of handling customers looking to fuel up.

The gas bar is located on a separate lot from the warehouse, which is currently still under construction, but still close by.

Around midday Friday, the traffic coming to fuel up was steady. With 24 pumps, no vehicles had to wait.

Attendants were on hand to assist customers who may have had questions at the pump. Other workers wearing high-visibility jackets stood at the entrance of the lot to direct traffic.

While the gas bar is open for business the warehouse itself isn’t expected to be operational until February 2022.
