More than 1,000 games to choose from at this hidden gem
Everyone has fond memories of a rousing game of monopoly or something similar among friends or family, but playing board games isn’t something many people carry on later into their life.
But Sarah from 104.7 The Lizard has the perfect hidden gem to reignite that competitive flame.
Check out the video.
Twice the Dice board game café on Bernard Avenue was started by Stacey Galigan, who as a teacher, would provide a big shelf of board games for her students to play after their work was finished.
After visiting a friend who showed her the board game café in her city, she was so enamored with the concept that she decided to create something similar in Kelowna.
“I started collecting board games about two years before I opened,” Galigan told Sarah. “Our whole garage was filled with board games, and then I finally made the leap.”
Opening during COVID was certainly a hardship, but the business stayed intact due to a loyal fan base of avid board game lovers
Nearly three years later, the café has been kept alive by these committed customers.
“We haven’t done a lot of advertising because we did open right at the beginning of COVID,” she explained. “So, our very loyal customer base has been with us right from the start through word of mouth.”
The café offers food and drink to go along with the fun, with local brews on tap as well.
Along with the classic board games everybody knows and loves, the café boasts over 1,000 games to choose from, the most popular being Catan and Ticket to Ride.
Though her tastes are a bit different, she admits nostalgia certainly plays a part.
“My favourite is the Mad Magazine board game from the 80s,” Galigan said. “I don’t think anybody’s played it here, but we do have a copy.”
