Social media campaign looks to help those in need

Second annual call out to help out the food bank.

  • Second annual 24 in 24 challenge
  • Helping those affected by the pandemic and floods

It’s a challenge to local businesses; collect 24 non-perishable items within 24 hours and deliver them to Gasoline Alley Harley Davidson.

The company has put a call out for the second year in a row to help the Central Okanagan Food Bank.

“Then it’s their turn to get another five businesses to do the same thing. You get a great snowball effect out of the whole thing,” Marketing & Events Manager Jenn Smith told Kelowna10.

Smith said the event was created in the wake of the pandemic and will now look to help more people affected by the flooding.

“More people are using the food bank this year than they were last year. To support the community, we just thought this was a great way to get a bunch of local businesses working together and filling a need.”

Smith said more people are stepping up and she is thankful for their contributions.

“Meeting local business owners and getting involved with them and being able to deliver the food at the end of all this is great,” Smith said.

Last year, 4,000 pounds of food was donated, worth just shy of $15,000.

Donations will be accepted until noon on Dec. 22.
