Relieving stress and anxiety through destruction.

Life can get stressful. Be it climate disasters or even just a hard day at work - it’s easy to become overwhelmed.

Luckily, there’s a room where a person can forget about all their problems, and release those inner frustrations.

“The rage room is where people can let off steam,” general manager of Axe Monkey’s Kelowna, Crystal McCauley, told Kelowna10.

“It’s a room that people can go to really express themselves, and get out their anxiety and all their frustration with the things going on right now.”

The RAGE ROOM allows people to choose from a variety of different breakable objects, and gives customers the chance to smash them to their heart’s desire.

Objects can range anywhere from small glass coffee cups to large TV’s and computers.

There is safety equipment provided, and customers can choose from an assortment of tools such as hammers, baseball bats, and golf clubs.

Background music can be chosen as well, enhancing whatever mood a smasher is in.

“A lot of office people seem to be tending to come in over the last year. Keyboards are one of our best sellers, we can’t keep them in,” McCauley said.

Electronic items are received from a local recycling centre, and once they are smashed, they are returned to be properly disposed of.

In the next three to four months, the company is planning to add a mobile RAGE ROOM to the Kelowna location. This will allow customers to try out the room from a number of locations.

McCauley said the room is booked for weeks on end, sometimes.

“That’s just because it’s a way to let those feelings out and this is a safe environment to do it. Like we say, it’s cheaper than therapy,” McCauley added.

Customers can yell and scream, and after a stressful day, it can be almost therapeutic.

“My favorite part is watching them, and seeing them when they walk out of the room, and you can see the relief on their face, and they’re like ‘Aw, I didn’t realize that was going to be so great,’” McCauley said.

“I think it really helps with somebody’s frustrations right now, especially in these times.”
