Skating returns to Stuart Park

Locals welcome a return to normalcy at outdoor Kelowna staple

  • Weather has dropped to optimal temperatures
  • Great way to spend quality time with family
  • Local shop offering skate rentals

Temperatures have finally dropped to what feels familiar for the season, meaning the skating rink at Stuart Park is open to the public.

On Saturday, friends and family merrily skated around the rink, enjoying the crisp air as well as each other's company.

Nearby, Kevin Laflamme, owner of Bladez Skate Rental Shop, who has operated his rental shop for six years. From his trailer, he offers rental skates, helmets, easy bars, and drinks.

“We missed last year because of COVID of course, but glad to be back this year,” Laflamme said.

Given last week's record high temperatures, it was looking doubtful as to whether the skating rink was going to be able to open according to schedule. Thankfully, the weather cooperated.

“I see we have the weather finally turned and in our favour, which is a beautiful thing,” Laflamme added.

At its core, the Stuart Park ice rink is a great location to gather with family during the holidays to spend quality time together.

“It’s a great outdoor activity for all the families and kids to get out. It’s nice to see grandparents take their kids out, and have a few laughs and see some smiles,” Laflamme said.

“Come on down and enjoy the festivities."
