Series of storms coming, Okanagan expected to avoid big rain

Heavy rains coming 10 days after record-breaking atmospheric river

The Province is urging people to prepare as weather alerts are issued by Environment Canada for a series of storms. Heavy rain, strong winds and snow is expected in some areas through next week.

While the worst of the weather is not forecast to hit the Okanagan, the storms expected to arrive in B.C. late Wednesday, will impact the north coast, central coast and Vancouver Island.

Also, the Fraser Valley could get hit by yet more rain with flooding again a possibility.

The latest severe weather comes just as Hwy 1 between Chilliwack and Abbotsford is set to open Thursday.

The provincial government said Wednesday the supply chain was 'stable' with food and goods replenishing store shelves across the Interior. However, it remained to be seen what impact the latest series of storms might have on highways that suffered landslides and flooding 10 days ago.

Winter storm, rainfall, wind, snowfall and flood warnings have been issued throughout B.C.'s coastal areas.

Closer to home there is no forecast for severe rains but there’s a winter storm warning in effect for Trans-Canada Highway - Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass through Friday. Up to 40 cms of snow is possible.

Special weather statements are in effect for Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley, Squamish to Whistler and the Sunshine Coast.

Flood conditions may arise in the areas over the period of these storms. The River Forecast Centre has issued high streamflow advisories for all regions of the coast.
