Fill up for a good cause!
As the holiday season draws near, The Shoe Box Project Kelowna chapter is reaching out to the community for support in spreading kindness and hope.
This national charity is dedicated to helping women in need, including those who identify as women, by supporting shelters and organizations that provide care and refuge.
“There are a lot of women, a lot of individuals that use the shelters, and they don't get to experience a Christmas like we do,” Lead Coordinator Marika Soleil told Sarah Nick from 104.7 The LIZARD. “We find filling the boxes with something a little bit special, newer items and toiletries gives them that extra boost."
Supporters of the program are invited to fill a shoebox with thoughtful, comforting, and essential items—small luxuries that go a long way in empowering women, uplifting their spirits, and helping to rebuild their confidence during challenging times.
Each box is packed with something cozy like socks, scarves, or gloves; something personal like shampoo and body wash; and something fun like a journal or playing cards. They also include something practical like a toothbrush and something sweet like candy, along with a supportive note.
This year, the shoeboxes will be delivered to KARIS, NOW Canada Society, The Bridge Youth & Family Services, and Jewels of Hope.
You can drop off your gift boxes at Chickpeace Zero Waste Refillery in Kelowna or at BB Hair Studio in Lake Country until December 15th.
If you’re unable to make a box, you can make an online donation.
