Save money on your kitchen renovation with this salvage program

Have a nice kitchen? They want to hear from you.

Kitchen renovations can be stressful.

So why not save money and help people in need while doing it.

That’s the goal with Habitat for Humanity’s Kitchen Salvage program.

The process is simple; contact Habitat for Humanity Okanagan before taking out your kitchen to see if it meets the criteria.

“We pull the entire cabinets intact - no need to remove doors or hardware. Ideally, we prefer kitchens that are less than 20 years old,” Katie English, with Habitat for Humanity Okanagan, said.

Once approved, they'll set a date and time for a team of skilled workers and volunteers to come and dismantle your old kitchen and take it away.

The entire removal process takes an average of four hours or less, larger kitchens may take a bit longer.

This leaves a clean and professional blank canvas for your new kitchen, plus saves you the cost of having it done by a contractor.

Once your old kitchen is removed, it is reassembled on the floor of a Habitat for Humanity ReStore and put up for sale.

You’ll receive a gift in-kind tax receipt for the resale value of your old kitchen.

The sale of the cabinets not only help fund Habitat for Humanity projects but keeps it out of the landfill.

The Kitchen Salvage program also accepts major appliances during a removal. This could also include kitchen sinks and taps, range hoods and any other items, if approved ahead of time by the team.
