Regan vs. Rockets: Jake Poole

The two talk career futures and sink shots

In this week's installment of Regan vs. Rockets, RocketFAN.ca’s Regan Bartel met up with former Rocket’s winger Jake Poole to shoot some pool at Rusty’s Sports Bar & Lounge.

Regan: So, Jake, do you play a lot of pool at home?

Jake: I don't have one at home, but, you know, I’ll go over to a couple buddies’ house and play there, but that's about it.

R: So, in the summer, what are you up to? You're living with former Rocket, Marshall Whiskey, what’s that like?

J: It’s been awesome, he and I get along really well.

R: And your place, I mean, does it look like a bachelor pad? There’s probably not a lot of fancy pillows around or anything.

J: No, we keep it pretty clean actually. Yeah, we’re two pretty clean guys.

R: So, you have some decisions to make, right? I mean, your WHL career is over, and so what's next?

J: Yeah, hopefully get a pro deal. If not, I think school, I've been talking to a couple of schools, so we’ll see where that goes.

R: Are you academically inclined?

J: I would say I'm a little smart, but not a nerd by any means.

R: And your parents want you to do what? Do they say, ‘Hey, don’t go for the education.’

J: No, my mom's a teacher, so I think she'd like me to go to school. But they leave this decision up to me, it’s my call there.

R: So how does it feel to be out of the WHL? Was the Western Hockey League experience everything you thought it would be?

J: Yeah, it was a lot of what I thought it would be. It’s just weird though being done, it feels like it’s been a big part of my life and now it’s gone. So, it’s definitely weird, but I’m excited for what’s ahead.

R: So, a pro deal is a possibility, right? I mean, ideally, you'd like to play pro hockey, is that something you want to see?

J: Yeah, for sure. I think even going to school for a couple of years, and then playing pro after, that’s my goal.
