Ramada Hotel shifts expansion plans

New documents detail shorter but bigger project

The Ramada Hotel in Kelowna is looking to expand, but the plans are a bit different than what was initially expected.

The hotel on Harvey Avenue initially presented plans for a 12-storey mass timber tower with 82 new guest rooms three years ago.

But new planning documents submitted to city hall this week detail a long, six floor building with 160 units. It will contain five levels of suites atop a single parkade level.

The new facility would be built on the southwest portion of the property and extend from Harvey to Enterprise Avenue. It is described as the Ramada Condo Development.

Project renderings show the roof lined with solar panels, alongside two covered gathering spaces.

Ramada needed to submit a new development permit to the city as the one from 2019 had expired.

There's no timeline for when it could come before lawmakers for the nod of approval.
