Unleashing canine connections on the water
Paddleboarding, the art of gliding across water on a sturdy board, has evolved somewhat. Other than its conventional use, some might do yoga on it, and even take their four-legged friends out for a journey.
Laura Geiger, owner of The Bullpen dog daycare in Lake Country, which focuses on smaller breeds, started the inaugural 'Paddle with your Pooch' night held at Beasley Park as a social event.
“I love paddleboarding, I love paddleboarding with my dog. And I've just gotten to know my clients, and I just thought it was a way that we could get together,” she told Toby from 103.1 Beach Radio. “We just wanted to have a fun night out with the dogs and the parents, instead of just dropping them off, and picking them up with just the ‘hellos, and goodbyes’.”
While the safety of the pets is a main concern, the fun aqua activity also serves as a nice bonding moment between owner and dog.
“I really believe in putting a lifejacket on them. If I'm in really cold waters, I tether my dog to the board, just make sure that they're safe and get out,” Geiger said. “Sometimes he and I can go out, we have snacks, we have lunch, and we just get to know each other all over again.”
